Christopher De Brito, 18, faces charges of resisting arrest and theft of a motor vehicle, and two 17-year-olds are charged with theft of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a vehicle, and unlicensed driving, Acton police said. Police did not release the names of the younger suspects.
An Acton police officer monitoring traffic on Great Road Thursday morning, Dec. 1, noticed the F-350 dump truck had an expired sticker and pulled it over. The driver stopped on the side of the road just over the Concord border near Shaw Farm Road, but the driver sped away as the officer walked toward the cab.
As police gave chase, one of the men jumped out of the cab and ran away near the Concord Rotary, authorities said. Officers stopped pursuing the truck for fear of public safety after the driver crossed the double yellow line.
A few moments later, another Acton officer spotted the dump truck on Main Street and successfully stopped it, authorities said. The 17-year-olds inside the vehicle were arrested. Officers later identified De Brito as the man who jumped out of the truck and arrested him.
Police said the truck was stolen from a landscaping company in Natick, and officers returned it to the owner following the arrests.
